New Adult Workshop Series!
Awakening to Healing the Earth and Each Other

Anthroposophical nurse and guest presenter, Lise de Longchamp, MA, BSN, RN; Lincoln Geiger, Wild Rose Founder and Executive Director; and Elizabeth Brandley M.Ed., Wild Rose Education Program and Farm Manager, will talk about how biodynamic farming, land-to-craft education, and anthroposophical nursing can harmonize health. Rudolf Steiner established anthroposophy (wisdom of the human being) as a science of the spirit at the end of the 19th and early 20th century. He gave indications for healing in many fields, including education, farming, and medicine. A similar approach to healing developed a half century later. In 1978 Aaron Antonovsky developed the theory of Salutogenisis, which changed the focus from the cause of disease to what maintains health. Salutogenisis posits that "one's sense of coherence—an orientation toward life as more or less comprehensible, manageable and meaningful"—supports health because it affects the resources available to one to cope with life's stressors and challenges (Maurice B. Mittelmark and Georg F. Bauer, 2022). Our workshops will explore practical applications inherit in all three of these healing practices.

SEPTEMBER 19: 1pm-4:30pm
Introduction to Anthroposophical Healing

The anthroposophical view of the human being and the world, may be rather different from anything you have known so far. Rudolf Steiner's research of human beings and the natural world used the scientific method to investigate both the physical and immaterial world—e.g., thoughts, feelings, and intentions.

In relation to farming, gardening, and nursing we will discuss and experience:

  • The importance of warmth and rhythm for supporting health.

  • Foundations of a Healthy Garden—a Farm-to-Table Craft:

    • We will learn about composting, treating our home garden as a living organism, and utilizing gardening as a salutogenic/ healing practice for oneself and one’s family.

  • Aurum Lavender Rose Heart Compress: An external application to enhance our experience of wellbeing through healing plant oils applied to the skin

Cultivating Healing Capacities

We will further our understanding of health as we explore inflammation and fever as healthy responses to illness. We will explore how illness and fever have the potential to transform our body, soul and spirit. We will also deepen our understanding of warmth through practical work with water and wool.
In relation to farming, gardening, and nursing we will discuss and experience:

  • Rhythms of Rest and Detoxification, both for the land and ourselves.

  • How to support a fever process naturally with a lemon calf wrap

  • Wet Felting, Grass-to-Fiber Craft:

    • We will learn a simple wool craft—that can be replicated at home—as a means for understanding and supporting warmth processes that are a foundation for health.

  • Anthroposophical remedies for coughs, colds and fevers

Thriving Through Difficulty

How does the land come to life building health through fertility? How can we do the same? We will explore what anthroposophic medicine can provide to ease fatigue and sleeplessness and nurture a salutogenic sense of coherence to relieve anxiety and greet each new day with meaningfulness. We will also explore how land-to-craft work imbues our being with a sense of purpose. We will learn about how green woodworking can help us sustain health by supporting our life forces.
In relation to farming and nursing we will discuss and experience:

  • Demonstration of a Chamomile Abdominal Wrap for anxiety

  • Demonstration of a shoulder Rhythmical Einreibung—a gentle therapeutic touch therapy

  • Forest-to-Woodworking Craft:

    • We will engage with green woodworking as an example of a land-to-craft practice that supports the life forces that must be present for us to maintain health and impart meaning to our lives.
